I have been using Bach Flowers with my animal clients for the last 8 years and I love them! (the flowers AND the clients:-D).
Animals are very opened and receptive to the Flowers because of the innate abilities of animals to look to flowers and herbs to help in healing and to promote health.
There have been animals that come into the Vet clinic where I worked, after being hit by a car. They are almost comatose from shock and to bring them back, the homeopathic Vet administered to the animal Rescue Remedy and I literally saw the light come back into their eyes and they were present again and no longer in shock.
What are Bach Flowers?
They are a series of 38 essences made up of a variety of plants and trees.
Dr. Edward Bach called them the “Happy fellows of the plant world” and started working with them in 1931. He discovered that each of the 38 Essences from well known and common trees, flowers and even pure water from springs. Could alleviate and help to lift the negative blockages which he believed shows themselves in negative emotions, and behavior (he called then potentials) which come about from one living one’s daily life. This could included traumatic situations that might have happened in our pasts that, because the blockages may still be there are showing themselves today is negative emotions and behaviors. Essential the the way it works is like this Bach believed that “Like vibrations cures, like emotions”. Energy is in every single thing on the earth, and we are all energy vibrating a different levels and speeds. The essences are also vibrating at the same speed as the the blockages that are able to heal. When taken the essence opens up the blockage(s) so that the being is then able to hear their voice of their higher self (also called soul, Source, Universe God) bringing BACK the feeling of well-being and thus positive emotions with it.
So, let’s begin our journey with the Bach Flowers by putting the
The Spotlight on Rescue Remedy…
So, I thought that I would start with probably the most well known of the Bach Flowers: Rescue Remedy it is made up of 5 different remedies: Cherry Plum, Clematis, Impatiens, Rock Rose, and Star of Bethlehem.
It is a very good Remedy to have around, I had gotten into the habit of keeping a bottle of Rescue Remedy with me all the time. Then when I became an Aunt (3 nephews and 2 nieces!) it really started coming in handy!
Rescue Remedy is a very good thing to have with you when you are working with animals.
But remember to ALWAYS call your Vet in any cases of emergency!
Not sure where to buy the Remedies? Don’t worry, at the bottom of this post is a link to the the place where I buy all my Remedies from.
What are common Rescue Remedy uses?:
•Before surgery or after (this can include teeth cleaning).
•Before going to the vet (for just a regular office visit).
•After an animal has had a fight with another.
•Before/During or After a lighting or thunderstorm (many animals do not deal well with lightning or thunder they go into what could be called a minor shock state)
•Before any MAJOR change, here are some examples:
moving into a new home, going for a ride in the car, a child leaving for college that your animal is very close to, boarding your animal (TIP: leave the bottle with the kennel personnel so they can give it to your animal while you are gone), before showing your animal, before flying with your animal, Introducing a new animal into the household.
You get the picture
•After an accident (BUT Please remember folks.. an animal in pain EVEN your own, could bite, so be careful and if you have ANY doubts AT ALL then DO NOT DO THIS!) Please also CALL your VET
•After Insect or dog bites (again if your animal is in pain remember they could bite YOU! so any doubts don’t do it)
•If your animal gets a sunburn (Yes you read right, animals can get sunburn. Lighter colored animals as well as dogs and cats with white ears can get sunburned on the tips and edges of the ears.
• For bruises or burns
• After an allergic reaction, or stroke
•A bird flying into a window
•When an animal becomes sick and you don’t know the reason (give the animal some drops, then immediately call your vet!)
How do I give Remedies to my animal friend(s)?:
I have thought up some pretty inventive ways over the years, because not every animal is so easy to give remedies to.
Putting the drops on to pieces of apple (I found they absorb the essences better) and giving them to a horse
Putting the drops into a jar of strawberry jam and here is the important part …letting the ZOO HANDLER give it to the bear.
for a 16 foot long boa constrictor I put a few drops on the fur of his dinner shortly before feeding
Normally putting the drops in the animals water works very well, and if this is a multiple animal household don’t worry, the Bach Flower will not do anything to the other animals, unless they need it. For small animals (cats, dogs) I give 2-3 drops in their water and put new drops in whenever I change the water. For bigger animals (Horses, Cows, Llamas, etc) anywhere from 5-8 drops on a slice of bread or a few apple slices should do the trick.
Remember to give the Bach Flowers to your animal only when they are showing signs of the negative behavior or emotions.
If you do not notice even the SLIGHTEST of changes after a 24-72 hour period then it might mean your friend will need to try another Bach Flower.
As I promised this where I get my Remedies from…
Here is the website where you can find the “Original Bach Flower” Remedies for some of the best prices that I have found so far, it’s called evitamins.

Hi
Very interesting and useful. I’ve studied and practised alternative therapies (for humans) and have used (not extensively) Bach Flower remedies.
We have two dogs – one who wants to kill the vet; and one who thinks she will die when there is lightning.
